Topic: Positives VS Negatives of Technology

There are many positives and negatives when it comes to technology both at school and at home. The internet and technology allows for kids our age to find information, connect and talk to family and friends, as well as a place to seek emotional support, or outlet through blogs or YouTube through music. The internet is extremely helpful to assist in research for school and outside of school opportunities. Many kids our age too, rely on YouTube to find tutorials for particular household activity or even music, to feel better. However, there is still a dark side to the web, particularly the fact that it opens up the avenue for cyberbullying that didn't exist before technology. This allows bullies to hide behind a screen and private information can be shared with strangers. This can then create an environment for classroom bullying and not being able to enjoy school. We should all be able to use technology in a safe and respectful way. We all signed the student declaration, and we should follow it. It is not fair for our friends to feel unsafe online and or at school. So lets support our friends, and do not say anything we wouldn't say or do to someone's face.

Don't be a keyboard warrior.

  1. Billy's Mum here, I think you make some really good points about how technology has positive and negatives impacts on everyone whether that be at school or at home. It is sad to think now that children are not only physically, verbally and emotionally bullied at school, this is now achievable by a small device carried around in their pockets. In my day, we did not have such a problem as if you had the 'guts' to bully someone you had to do it to their face.

Don't forget to think outside the square, technology has not only improved education, but it is now also saving lives in hospitals, that 30 odd years ago would have been extremely hard, or basically unachievable.

This is a very important topic for you to be covering, and learning how to use technology for the better, not the worst.

    Hi guys,

We think your response to task 2 - communicate is very good. We thought you incorporated the student declaration extremely well. We do have a few questions we thought you could have also covered.

    1. Why do you think cyberbullying has become such a big issue within our society, based off of the higher use of technology?

    2. What needs to happen for us to see a change?

    3. Do you think there needs to be specific cyberbullying legislation created that sees bullies receive jail time?

    4. What would you do if someone was cyberbullied within the class? How would you assist them? Or would you not help them at all.

Again, you have communicated a fantastic response to the topic of the positive and negatives surrounding technology.
